Ban on canned or frozen foods

November 18, 2005

by Kit Cassingham

A client recently asked me about some states having regulations that prohibit the use of canned or frozen food in food preparation.

I'd heard something about that a few years ago but haven't seen anything lately. Anybody know anything about it?

Here is a link to a Food and Drug Administration announcement from 1993. Twelves years ago, the FDA announced its intention to ban the use of lead soldered cans for food sold in the United States. At that time, roughly 10% of all imports were lead soldered cans.
