Market Niche Definition

November 21, 2004

by Kit Cassingham

From "Ask Kit!":
Q: Our market niche is skiers. How do we attract them their to our inn, rather than the other inns in town?

A: Narrow your focus a bit more on who your niche is. What is the socio-economic profile of your guest? What experience do you want to offer guests and who will want that experience? Essentially you want to attract people like yourselves (only richer!) and "all" you have to do is figure out how to describe that guest. Once you know who is coming to your B&B then you know what packages to create, what prices to charge, what food to serve at breakfast and other food times.

And if you expand your focus beyond the ski season you can build a solid year-round business.
